The Department of Family and Consumer Science, Bogor Agricultural University held the summer course program on Family Life among Agricultural Families in West Java: Dynamic of Family Resource Management, Parenting, and Consumer Practice” in 22nd – 28th August 2017. As many as 12 students have attended the summer course program from 3 (three) different countries, Malaysia, Korea and Uzebekistan. This program was attended by students from University Putra Malaysia, Seoul National University Korea, and Kyung Hee University. This course involves 27 members of the Association of student’s family and consumer science (HIMAIKO).
During the training, the participants were given lectures from expert on family science, household financial management, family resource management, child nature, decision-making of the farmer’s family. In this course, the participants are given the opportunity to acquire knowledge on the conditions of the farmer’s families in Indonesia, mainly in West Java. Besides, the participants also directly observe the life of the farmer’s family in West Java and to visit the home industry, Agriculture Development Station (ADS), plantation and field where the participants can observe and participate in farming, since the beginning of the course, product exhibition and product marketing. Besides observation, the participants must interview the farmer’s family concerning the agricultural life of the farmers with the variables of family resource management, child nurture, and consumer behavior practice.
